The chili cookoff was a huge success thanks to Chris, Randy and Shanna at the Ohio Brewing Company.

This is your chance to bring your famous, infamous or otherwise storied chili for other members to try.

The norm for our chili cookoffs is to bring your chili in a crockpot/slow cooker. Time is given so that all attendees can try the different chilis and vote.

Categories for the chili competition will be: People’s Choice, Most Interesting, and Spiciest.

The Rally will end at the Spaghetti Warehouse in downtown Akron ( http://www.meatballs.com/) with dinner and prizes. Top 3 finishers will win gift certificates for the restaurant!

Zone 4 Representative

Well, we are into the New Year and the Great Lakes Zone is mostly blanketed with snow, ice, and slush!! It’s time for doing indoor events and planning the outdoor ones. Most Regions have wonderful indoor events in the winter such as Chili Cook-off’s, Wine Tastings, new member parties, and other social events to keep up our spirits and provide an opportunity to (what else) talk about summer driving! Another popular indoor event is a Tech Session, usually held at a local Porsche service shop. Please check out you Region’s website for the latest local region events that may interest you. If you are traveling around the Great Lakes area and find yourself looking for something to do in another region area, check their website before going and see if there is something going on that would interest you. Generally speaking, PCA Regions will be happy to accommodate visitors from other Regions at their events if at all possible. It’s a great way to make new friends or catch up with some old friends that you only see in the summer.

Now, for upcoming zone events to plan for in the spring and summer:

• Drivers Education Opportunities are being planned for the springtime at:
  • Mid Ohio SCC on April 15-17^th (Ohio Valley Region) (tentative)
  • Mid Ohio SCC on April 30-May 2^nd (Northern Ohio Region) (tentative)
  • Watkins Glen on May 13-15^th (Allegheny Region)
  • Mid Ohio SCC on May 13-15^th (Mid-Ohio Region)
  • The Central Indiana Region will be celebrating their 50^th Anniversary on June 17, 18, & 19 in Indianapolis, IN. Stay tuned for details.
  • On the weekend of June 25^th, the Vintage Grand Prix will be at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Porsche will be the featured Marque for the event. Information is available at http://www.midohio.com/.
  • The Allegheny Region will celebrate their 50^th Anniversary on July 23^rd at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Porsche will be the featured Marque at this event also, and they are hoping to attract 1000 cars to the weekend event. Information will be forthcoming on the Allegheny Region website or at http://www.pvgp.org/pvgp/site/default.asp.
  • Ohio Valley Region celebrates their 50^th Anniversary on October 29^th & 30^th in Cincinnati, OH with a banquet at the Porsches of the Village dealership. See the website for details.
  • The annual Porsche Parade will be held in Savannah, GA form July 31^th to August 6^th. See the PCA Website for details at http://parade2011.pca.org/ . Registration opens on March 8^th.
  • The P2O multi-region event will again be in Oxford, Ohio (near Cincinnati) on July 30^th weekend. Come and be a part of a “Casual Porsche Party” that attracts over 400 cars from the surrounding regions.

I would like to celebrate the return of Porsche A.G. to the North American International Auto Show being held in Detroit, Michigan at the Cobo Hall Conference & Exhibition Center Jan. 15-23, 2011. They have been absent from the show since 2007 but have decided to return in 2011. The show opens to the public on Saturday, January 15^th, 2011. Porsche has announced that it will be introducing a new concept car at the show, which will make it a very special event to attend for all of the Porschephiles in our Club.

I thought it would be fun to plan a gathering at the Porsche Display around noon on Saturday for a Zone 4 “Meet and Greet”, look at the cars, take some photos, and generally provide some support for our friends at PCNA and the local dealerships. Because of the distance to Detroit for many Zone 4 members, you may want to plan a weekend trip to the Motor City. I am helping by coordinating the following weekend events for those individuals and regions that would like to make this a “weekend destination event”:

• (Contrary to my earlier posting, there will NOT be a Shuttle Bus service from the hotel area to the Cobo Center this year). For those of us staying in Dearborn, we will organize vehicles on Saturday morning, drive downtown and park at the Cobo Center. This will take around an hour each way with traffic. We will leave the Dearborn Inn parking lot at 9:00 AM and leave the Cobo Center at 5:00 PM to return.
• Dinner gathering on Saturday Evening around 7:00 PM for all Zone 4 members (Individual Pay); location is close by the hotel; Andiamo of Dearborn, 21400 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, Michigan 48124, (313) 359-3300. http://www.andiamoitalia.com/index.html Please RSVP to me by Wednesday, January 12^th if you plan to join us at dinner so I can confirm the reservations.
• · Optional self-guided tour of the Henry Ford Museum and/or Automotive Hall of Fame on Sunday before returning home. If you have not been to the Henry Ford, you owe it to yourself and family to make the trip at least once in your lifetime. http://www.hfmgv.org/

Several regions have done this as a very successful event weekend in the past- it can be a great family weekend adventure in the midst of winter. I will leave the details of any group travel plans to and from the event to each region to organize what their membership might like to do.
