Annual EBR Fall Fun Rally

October 24, 2009

Come on out and join us for another great EBR Fun Rally.  These are always a blast, but this time it’s also for a good cause!!  In conjunction with the Rally we will also be collecting food and donations to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank!  In fact, the Rally itself will begin in the parking lot of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, located just off of the Akron Innerbelt (SR59) at 350 Opportunity Parkway, Akron 44307.  We are asking all rally participants to bring a non-perishable food item with them to the start point, where we will also be accepting any other donations you feel like giving.

Participating Rally-ers should gather around 4:15 for a 4:30 start, with the last car off at 5:00.  Rally finish will be at the Canton Winking Lizard located at  5710 Fulton Dr. N.W. Canton, 44718.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers!

All EBR members are encouraged to come join us at the Winking Lizard around 7:00, where additional food and money donations will be accepted.

First Ever Mid-Ohio Autumn Thunder

October 17 & 18, 2009
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Autumn Thunder – It’s OVR’s perfect combination for the first ever fall Drivers’ Education at the Lexington, Ohio track on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, 2009.

Following the disappointment of the of the August Bluegrass Drivers’ Education cancellation, go now to ClubRegistration.net and register for the Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18 Drivers’ Education. On Friday, October 17, OVR invites advanced drivers to experience an open track for car time.

The 2.4-mile long, 15-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has fiercely challenged the mettle of the world’s top drivers for more than four decades. OVR’s Leadership Team has organized your turn to experience what makes this permanent road course so exciting.

Gary Nichols worked with the Mid-Ohio Management Team to negotiate the date. Dan Jauch continues to head Safety, Mary Louise Bauman volunteered for Registration and Jerry Wolf agreed to “supervise” the Instructors.

Ninety five rooms at Quality Inn, Bellville, Ohio, are reserved with OVR’s special rates of $89 for a double queen and for a $99 for king. Call 419-886-7000 before October 15, 2009 [first come, first serve, the hotel sells out frequently] to secure your lodging.

Event registration and car tech begins on Friday, October 17 at 5:00 pm at the Quality Inn parking lot.

Both Saturday and Sunday’s complete schedule is posted on the OVR website www.ovrpca.org. Register now and reveal the true Porsche enthusiast in you, get behind the wheel and drive your car. Beginners will have class and in-car instruction.

Tech Session – Performance Brakes 10/8/09

Join us for a tech session Thursday, October 8th presented by Hawk Brakes. Our speaker will be Jay Andrew of Andrew Racing and the subject will be performance brakes. If you have ever wanted to know anything about brakes, this is your chance. Hawk is a manufacturer of both street and racing brake pads.

Jay Andrew has been racing in the NASA American Iron series since 2004. In the early 1990′s Autocross events with SCCA were the racing fix but an on track drivers school with the BMW CCA started the need for speed on the track.  National success was found in 2006 at the Inaugral NASA Nationals held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a 1st place finish.  Again in 2007 Jay won the American Iron series nationals. Ferry Porsche’s 100th Birthday Celebration!

Help us celebrate Ferry Porsche’s birthday on Saturday, September 19th, with a wine tasting party and the viewing of the new, just released movie “The Porsche Way”. The two and a half hour movie revives the entire history of Porsche from the early days to present.

During the movie, we will be tasting the wines brought by those attending the event, so bring your favorite bottle of wine. Hors d’oeuvres will be furnished.

Race or Autocross Tires: Toyo R888 205/50/15

4 Toyo R888 full tread 205/50/15. 2 have been mounted and scrubbed in (but still nearly full depth), 2 have never been mounted and still have stickers. Purchased to be used as rains on my spec miata, but it was a dry season. SM goes back to RA-1 for next year, so I have no need for these.
